PADRAIC Mac Eochaidh produced an outstanding display at Parnell’s GAA on Tuesday afternoon, when Coláiste Ghlór na Mara recorded a 5-15 to 7-5 triumph over Grange CC in a thrilling Tom Quinlan Plate Two decider.
The Balbriggan school found their feet thanks to early scores from Cormac Ó Cearráin and Callum Mac Craith, and with Mac Eochaidh leading their charge alongside Christian Ó Masún, Ruadhán Mac Canna and Cébhán Houshidari, they were keeping Grange on the back-foot. An outstanding John Ó Cleirigh score helped Ghlór to establish a 3-10 to 2-4 half-time lead, before their Donaghmede rivals turned the game on its head after the resumption.
Five goals in the space of 15 minutes meant Grange were suddenly three points to the good, and on course to repeat their group stage victory over the same opposition. The Gaelscoil didn’t panic, however, and following crucial goals by Ó Cearráin and Mac Craith, an insurance free from Mac Eochaidh helped Ghlór to secure their first football trophy in the school’s four-year history.
