GAELIC GAMES: LEINSTER SENIOR ‘A’ HURLING LEAGUE
South suffer second defeat as Cats maul them

THERE was further disappointment for Dublin South in the Leinster Schools Senior ‘A’ Hurling League yesterday, when they were on the receiving end of a 3-11 to 1-9 defeat to Kilkenny CBS in Abbotstown.
South had lost out to Borris VS in their opening group game on October 18, but they were certainly competitive in the early stages against a well-organised CBS side.
Indeed, despite trailing by two points (0-5 to 1-4) at the break, they subsequently edged in front after the restart.
Liam Murphy was South’s top marksman against Borris, and when he found the back of the CBS net, Fintan Clandillon’s side held a three-point advantage.
However, they were facing into a stiff breeze during the second half, and this meant scores were harder to come by.
Kilkenny CBS – who reached the semi-final of last season’s All-Ireland Schools Senior ‘A’ Hurling Championship – responded to Murphy’s goal with another three-pointer of their own, and were in the driving seat for the remaining minutes of the contest.
Back-to-back reversals have effectively ruled South out of contention for a place in the competition’s knockout stages, but with a Leinster Championship encounter against Wexford Schools coming up on Saturday week, they will be aiming to build on the positive aspects of their performances to date.
