DEFENDING champions Ardscoil Ris will face Colaiste Eoin in the Dublin Schools Junior ‘A’ Hurling Championship decider after they defeated Colaiste Eanna at a breezy Pairc Naomh Uinsionn on Tuesday.
Midfielder Rory was their top scorer, grabbing 0-7, with four from placed balls.
After Rory O’Neill and Eanna centre-back Cillian Wall had traded early points in the home of St Vincent’s GAA, unanswered scores by Joe O’Connell, Sam Carty and Rory Finn (two) helped Ardscoil to open up a four-point gap. Eanna kept in touch with efforts from Wall and Malachy Codd either side of Finn’s third before a speculative delivery from Ardscoil half-back Tommy O’Brien drifted past netminder Padraic Doyle for a 17th-minute goal.
Wall subsequently added his third point of the day, but thanks to additional contributions courtesy of O’Neill, Finn (three) and Patrick McCaw, Ardscoil brought a commanding 1-11 to 0-4 buffer into the interval.
Efforts from McCaw and Finn enhanced the Griffith Avenue school’s advantage when the play recommenced, but Eanna, following much persistence, responded through substitute Adam Kellegher. Rhys McDonnell and Wall were also on target during a bright spell for Eanna, as the Ardscoil attack found scores harder to come by against a strong breeze.
Despite hitting 11 wides in the second-half, Eanna managed to reduce the deficit with another set of back-to-back points from Wall and Kellegher. However, with O’Brien, Mark Higgins and Cillian O’Neill impressing in defence, Ardscoil advanced to the upcoming decider with seven points to spare.
