GAELIC GAMES: LEINSTER SH ‘A’ LEAGUE
North kick-start campaign with comprehensive win
Daire Walsh
DUBLIN North began their Leinster Schools Senior ‘A’ Hurling League campaign in spectacular fashion on Bank Holiday Monday, when they recorded a convincing 6-15 to 2-14 away victory over Good Counsel, New Ross, writes Daire Walsh.
This was an ideal way for Paul O’Brien’s charges to set out their stall in Roinn Two, and another win against Antrim Schools at the DCU Sportsgrounds this Sunday would virtually secure a spot in the league semi-finals. Good Counsel had defeated Antrim in Abbotstown on October 25, but with Cillian Hayes leading the way, North were in control for the majority of their latest outing.
His 2-6 tally ensured he was scorer-in-chief for the visiting team, while Sean Clerkin also caught the eye with a brace of goals.
These hauls were supplemented by Liam Foley and Eoin Gleeson three-pointers, as North kept significant daylight between the teams.
Good Counsel battled admirably throughout the proceedings, but thanks in no small part to the strong leadership provided by county stars Lee Gannon and Kevin Burke, Dublin North finished with 13 points to spare.
