ST AIDAN’S CBS will face Ardscoil Ris in the Dublin Schools Juvenile ‘A’ Football Championship semi-final after they edged a thrilling encounter with St Benildus College last Thursday.
Benildus were aiming to hit the ground running on their home patch, and they kept Aidan’s on the back-foot for large spells of the opening period. However, thanks to a 1-2 salvo by Paul Daly, the visitors held a slender interval advantage (2-7 to 2-6).
Indeed, Aidan’s were able to build on this promising first-half display, as well-worked scores from Sean Gannon, Sean Stone and Denis Toro helped the Collins Avenue side to develop a seven-point cushion upon the resumption. Yet, Benildus were not prepared to throw in the towel, and they moved back into the ascendancy with a brace of successful penalties.
This set-up a tense conclusion to the contest, but courtesy of a late three-pointer by substitute Rory Falls – in addition to fine displays from Oisin Quinn and Curtis Mullins – Aidan’s squeezed through on a scoreline of 6-9 to 5-9.
