HISTORY was made by Dominican College at Good Counsel GAA last Friday afternoon, when the Drumcondra girls captured the Dublin Schools Minor ‘A’ Camogie Championship title for the very first time.

The Griffith Avenue school had impressed in their semi-final victory against Colaiste Iosagain, and courtesy of strong work-rate from the likes of Jenny Gleeson, Anna Sullivan and Aifric Mangan, they took the game to their county Kildare counterparts early on.

Indeed, thanks to well-worked goals by Eile O Ceallaigh and Emily Bryne, they brought a 2-5 to 0-3 cushion into the break. However, Mary’s were eager to close the gap when the action resumed, and the scoring prowess of Sophie Brown helped the Sallins Road outfit to work their way back into the reckoning.

The centre-forward finished with a personal tally of 0-5, and with substitute Anna Burke also contributing a 1-1 salvo, Mary’s ensured that Dominican were kept on their toes throughout the second period.

However, the north Dublin side regained their composure in the closing stages, and a sublime score from a sideline by the excellent Sullivan capped off a memorable 3-11 to 1-7 triumph.
