MEABH Gannon and Ciara O’Flaherty were in outstanding scoring form at Good Counsel GAA last Friday morning, when St Wolstan’s College, Celbridge claimed a 10-1 to 4-9 victory over Mount Sackville in the Dublin Schools’ Minor ‘B’ Camogie Championship final.
Having also secured the Dublin Junior ‘B’ Camogie title at the end of January, 2017 has proven to be a monumental year for the Clane Road school. However, despite what the final scoreline may suggest, this was a closely-fought encounter for the most part.
Wolstan’s goalkeeper Caoimhe Casey produced a string of impressive saves throughout the course of the tie, and with Kate Reynolds, Amy Quinn and Grace Moore all contributing scores, Mount Sackville kept themselves in contention.
However, with an exceptional haul of four goals, Gannon was an inspirational figure in the Wolstan’s attack. O’Flaherty also registered a hat-trick of goals, and courtesy of additional three-pointers by Ella Copeland, Laura Striblyte and Niamh Mortell, the north Kildare school had 10 points to spare in the end.
