Dublin Adult Football League Division One Round-Up: Dublingaa.ie – May 25 2017

AFL1 ROUNDUP – 25TH MAY

ADULT FOOTBALL LEAGUE DIVISION ONE ROUND-UP

St Sylvester’s, St Jude’s, Thomas Davis and Ballymun Kickhams all enjoyed memorable wins this week, as Division One of the Adult Football League kicked back into gear.

The impressive quartet are currently tied on six points each at the summit of the table, and thanks to a last-minute goal from Dublin U21 star Chris Sallier, Thomas Davis prevailed with just one point to spare (3-9 to 2-11) in a standalone fixture with Kilmacud Crokes at Silver Park on Tuesday evening (May 23).

This placed the Tallaght club in pole position ahead of Wednesday’s games, but St Vincent’s had an opportunity to leapfrog them when they faced Naomh Maur in Rush.

They appeared to be odds-on for their third win of the campaign when they led 1-8 to 0-5 at the interval, but following a brace of second-half goals by Con McGuinness and some excellent Chis Carty free taking, Maur’s completed an excellent fightback to secure a 2-12 to 1-13 triumph.

Fresh from their enthralling extra-time Championship encounter at Parnell Park, St Oliver Plunkett’s/Eoghan Ruadh (2-9) and Castleknock (1-12) shared the spoils in Martin Savage Park. Colin Lynch scored well for Castleknock, getting their goal.

Jack Sheedy’s St Sylvester’s maintained the momentum from their recent championship outings with a commanding 3-15 to 0-5 triumph over Clontarf – who are still searching for their first league points of 2017. Cuala (who had a delayed start to their season because of the All-Ireland success of their senior hurlers) are also seeking their first win, after Jude’s recorded a 1-17 to 0-11 victory at their expense in Hyde Park.

Elsewhere, Ballymun Kickhams edged out northside rivals Na Fianna on a scoreline of 1-17 to 1-16 at Trinity College’s grounds in Santry Avenue. Na Fianna sub Mikey Deegan fired home their goal and Glenn O’Reilly gave a very strong performance over the hour for the Glasnevin men. However, Sean Currie made a number of good saves for Ballymun to help them hold on to win by the narrowest of margins. St Brigid’s recorded a second consecutive win against Lucan Sarsfields at 12th Lock (2-21 to 0-11).
