SEAN Ó Fuaráin produced an outstanding display at the National Games Development Centre in Abbotstown on Monday, when Scoil Chaitriona claimed the Dublin Schools’ Junior ‘C’ Hurling title at the expense of HFCS Rathcoole.

The Mobhi Road outfit had booked their place in the final with a 1-20 to 3-7 win against Maynooth PP in early December, while Rathcoole enjoyed a narrow victory (2-8 to 3-4) in their penultimate round clash with St Kevin’s CBS. Ó Fuaráin was the Chaitriona captain on the day, but despite delivering a sterling performance in the opening half, a goal from HFCS ensured that only two points separated the teams at the break.

This left the sides delicately poised when the action resumed, but thanks to strong defensive work by Oisín Ó Maolagáin, Fionn Mac Lochlainn and Tiarnán Mac Caba, Chaitriona were able to develop a powerful platform against their Kilteel Road rivals. Ciarán Ó Braonáin had to be on their toes on a number of occasions in the second-half, but with Liam Mac Eachráin in fine form, Chaitriona (who qualified for the Dublin Senior ‘C’ decider last week) were threatening to dominate the proceedings once more.

Rathcoole, on the other hand, were struggling to get the kind of scores that would force them back into contention, and following late goals by Adam Ó Reachtaire and Eoghan Mac Eachráin, Scoil Chaitriona recorded a 2-14 to 1-5 triumph.
