DUBLIN JUNIOR ‘A’ FOOTBALL FINAL
Three titles in a row for St Aidan’s
JAMES Doran produced a man-of-the-match display at Clanna Gael Fontenoy on Tuesday, as St Aidan’s CBS secured a third consecutive Dublin Schools’ JF ‘A’ Championship title with a 0-14 to 0-12 triumph over Colaiste Eoin.
Aidan’s defeated St Benildus College in the 2015 decider, and with Doran, Jordan Leonard and Sergei Runin in fine form, they developed an early three-point platform. Eoin – who lost to Aidan’s in the Dublin Junior ‘A’ Hurling showpiece last November – eventually settled, however, and they found themselves on level terms (0-5 apiece) at half-time.
Fionn Ó Ceallaigh and midfielder Diarmuid Ó Floinn offered a strong attacking outlet for the gaelscoil in the opening period, while defenders Cian Mac Dáibhéid and Des Ó Dúgáin also got their name on the scoresheet.
Peadar Ó Cofaigh-Byrne and Tomás Ó hEachtgheirn aditionally chipped in with fine contributions, but with Runin, Leonard, Andy McCaul and the outstanding Doran all registering two points apiece, Aidan’s held a slender advantage for much of the second period.
Eoin persevered with their challenge in the closing moments, but with goalkeeper Mark Kenny making some crucial saves, it was St Aidan’s who claimed the silverware on offer.
