LEINSTER SH ‘A’ QUARTER-FINALS
North in last four
THERE were mixed fortunes for Dublin North and Colaiste Eoin in the quarter-finals of the Leinster Schools’ SH ‘A’ Championship, which took place last Saturday, writes Daire Walsh.
Following the concession of an early Dylan Conroy goal, Eoin were always chasing the game against Mountrath CS at Ballykelly.
The accuracy of Dara de Poire lifted some of the pressure off their shoulders, but their Laois counterparts had a 1-9 to 0-5 buffer at the mid-way point.
The impressive De Poire finished with an individual haul of 0-5, but it was the Aaron Dunphy-inspired Mountrath who sealed a semi-final spot on a scoreline of 1-16 to 0-8.
There will be a Metropolitan representation in the last-four, though, after Dublin North secured a six-point win (0-16 to 1-7) over St Peter’s, Wexford.
They suffered an early set-back in Fenagh when Rory O’Connor registered a goal, but with Johnny McGuirk Jr in outstanding form, they led 0-9 to 1-5 at the interval.
McGuirk finished with an exceptional 0-11 to his name, and thanks to excellent displays by John Walsh and Daire Grey, North progressed in commanding style and now face St Kieran’s, Kilkenny.
