Meanwhile, eight points from the boot of captain Mick O’Gara were crucial at Donnybrook yesterday when Presentation College, Bray recorded a 13-8 victory against Gonzaga College in the Leinster Schools Junior Cup first round. Pres Bray opened their account on six minutes with an expertly-struck penalty from O’Gara, a lead they held to half-time.
Gonzaga finally levelled matters with a successful 39th-minute place-kick from scrum-half Jack Connolly. Seven minutes later, winger Henry Higgins crossed over on the right-flank for an unconverted five-pointer.
Bray hit back on 50 minutes, when full-back Samuel O’Dowd finished off a sweeping move in the left-corner.
O’Gara followed up his superb touchline conversion with a routine penalty five minutes from time.
