Dublin Schools Juvenile Football ‘A’ Championship Round-Up: The Evening Herald – October 22 2015

DUBLIN JFC ‘A’

Two out of two means Fintan’s stay on course for the semis

THEY may have three group games left to play, but thanks to two wins from as many games to date, 2014 finalists St Fintan’s High School are on course to reach the knockout stages of the Dublin Schools Juvenile Football ‘A’ Championship.

The top four teams at the end of the group element will progress to the semi-final stage, and with Jack Moylan and Cathal Brennan in fine scoring form, the Sutton outfit emerged victorious on a scoreline of 6-15 to 5-12 in their opening game of the competition against St Aidan’s.

With a mixture of players from Raheny, Clontarf and Naomh Barrog, they coped admirably with a stiff breeze in the opening half of their game against the Collins Avenue school.

They also fought the elements in their second encounter with St Benildus College, and in addition to the consistent showings from Moylan and Brennan, the midfield pairing of Kevin Byrne and Eoin Bridgeman proved inspirational in a 9-11 to 5-13 triumph.

This was a disappointing result for their Kilmacud counterparts, but with Aaron O’Toole, Jack Feehan, Shane Flynn and Sean Monaghan to the fore, a determined Benildus did register wins over Maynooth PP and Aidan’s before yesterday’s clash with Ardscoil Ris.

Colaiste Eoin secured last year’s title in spectacular style against Fintan’s in the DCU Sportsgrounds, but following an October 9th defeat at the hands of Ardscoil, they need to be on their toes in their remaining fixtures.
