GAELIC GAMES: DUBLIN SHC ‘B’
Colmcille’s face ‘Nure in decider
THE destination of the Dublin Schools Senior Hurling title will be decided tomorrow afternoon, when St Colmcille’s Community School and Terenure College face each other in an intriguing showpiece decider.
This game will be familiar territory for both sides, as they met during Roinn 2 of this year’s competition – when Colmcille’s held a slight edge. However, ‘Nure still managed to progress to a last-four encounter with Roinn 1 table-toppers St Declan’s College in Russell Park last Thursday, which they led at half-time by 2-5 to 0-4, thanks largely to goals from corner-back Eoin Gilroy and Jake Moore.
Gilroy, Kevin Cronin and Philip Jordan produced superb defensive displays after the restart, and with Moore and Mark McGee securing further majors in the second period, Terenure prevailed with 11 points to spare (4-12 to 2-7).
Colmcille’s didn’t have it their own way in the other semi-final on Monday, however, and although Conor Barton excelled from frees, the Ballyboden school were on level terms with Salesian College on their home turf at the mid-way point (0-10 apiece).
Faughs full-back Robbie O’Connell impressed upon the resumption, though, and in addition to the reliable Barton, Robert Byrne (who finished with 0-5 to his name) and James Madden were constant threats to the Salesians rearguard.
A number of the Colmcille’s panel are also members of the school’s junior side (who face Templeogue College in their Championship semi-final), and on this occasion, they held out for a narrow 1-13 to 0-14 triumph.
