LEINSTER SH ‘C’ FINAL

Declan’s denied at the death by comeback of Boyne CS

THERE was heartbreak for St Declan’s College at Abbotstown on Tuesday as the Cabra side suffered an agonising 1-17 to 2-13 reversal to Boyne CS in the Leinster Senior ‘C’ Hurling Championship decider.

Declan’s had looked set to come on top when they twice led by a single point in the closing minutes of the contest. However, their Trim counterparts refused to throw in the towel and stage an impressive late rally to ultimately claim the spoils.

Declan’s progressed to this stage as a consequence of their convincing semi-final win over PDLS Bagenalstown at the end of January. They found themselves in a promising position at the midway point in this showpiece affair – quick-fire goals propelling them towards a 2-8 to 1-7 interval cushion.

Indeed, despite the rising challenge of their Royal county opponents, they remained in the ascendancy for the majority of the second period. That was until Conor Quigley and James Murray both clipped equalising scores in a frantic finale.

With extra-time beginning to loom large, Mikey Cole – his side’s first half goal-scorer – split the posts in clinical fashion to seal the deal for Boyne CS.
