ST PETER’S WEXFORD 1-11; COLáISTE EOIN 1-6

Despite their best efforts on the day, Coláiste Eoin were unable to make it three wins out of three in the south-east yesterday afternoon as they lost out to a highly accomplished St Peter’s College of Wexford, who had five points to spare over the south Dublin school in a competitive Leinster Colleges Senior Hurling ‘A’ League contest.

The Booterstown outfit had been extremely impressive up to this point in the competition, having started off with a 9-7 to 1-8 demolition of rivals Dublin North, before following it up with a memorable six-point triumph over St Kieran’s College.

The Slaneysiders had been involved in some very tight encounters, having lost out by a point to Kieran’s a couple of weeks back, before defeating Dublin North by the same margin a week later.

However, they showed great intent in the early moments of this tie (played in the Shelmaliers GAA Club in Castlebridge), and despite the best efforts of Jake ó Maoileoin and Cian Mac Gabhann in defence, Eoin were finding it difficult to play with the same kind of tempo as they had in their previous fixtures.

As the action moved into the second period, Eoin did ensure that they still had a fighting chance courtesy of the efforts of Colm ó Néill and Dara ó Gallchobhair, but the Summerhill boys had enough in reserve to secure their second league win of the campaign, throwing the league wide open as a result.
