SCOIL CHAITRíONA 1-7; MALAHIDE CS 1-6

SeAn O hIci was the hero on the Ballymun Kickhams Astro Pitch last Thursday afternoon, as Scoil Chaitríona edged out north Dublin counterparts Malahide Community School in a nail-biting Dublin Post Primary Schools Senior Hurling ‘B’ Final.

Both sides had shown a keen eye for goal in their respective semi-finals, with Scoil Chaitríona getting the better of Templeogue College on a scoreline of 3-8 to 0-10 the previous week, while Malahide had a very impressive 4-12 to 2-10 victory over another southside outfit in the form of Terenure College.

This decider proved to be a low-scoring encounter, though, and every score was going to be a vital one. Chaitríona were in the ascendancy at the mid-way point, with points from Ó hIcí (2), Seán Ó Riain and Cian Mac Stíbhín, as well as a deflected goal from a long-distance free by Ó hIcí, giving the Mobhi Road school a 1-4 to 0-2 lead.

This left Malahide with it all to do after the re-start, but with Dublin minor star Kevin O’Flynn starting to exert his influence from his midfield post, they were beginning to ask serious questions of Chaitríona.

However, the accurate free-taking from fourth year student Ó hIcí was of immense importance to Chaitríona on the day, and he found the target on three occasions in the second period to squeeze them over the line, despite a goal in the final moments for a determined Malahide.
