DANIEL Peel was the hero at Eire Og, Carlow yesterday as Ardscoil Ris claimed the Leinster JHC ‘A1’ title with a nail-biting 2-9 to 0-14 success over Colaiste Mhuire, Johnstown of Kilkenny.
With the sides deadlocked moving towards full-time, Peel coolly-converted a ’65’ to edge the Griffith Avenue outfit over the line. While a brace of early goals helped Ardscoil to settle, Alex Burke’s two-point salvo ensured Mhuire led at the break (0-9 to 2-2).
There was little to separate the teams on the resumption but, thanks in no small part to Peel’s dead-ball accuracy, the Dublin champions ultimately prevailed.
