MALAHIDE Community College were crowned Leinster Senior Hurling ‘C1’ champions with a magnificent 3-25 to 1-15 victory over Duiske College, Kilkenny at Athy on Tuesday.
The metropolitans had reached this stage as a consequence of an emphatic win against St Pat’s, Navan. Liam Foley and Darragh McLoughney were stand-out performers in that test and delivered another set of impressive displays in the Kildare venue.
However, thanks to his majestic 2-4 haul, it was Ben Mooney who proved a worthy recipient of the player-of-the-match award. With promising Kilkenny minor Pierce Blanchfield largely kept at bay, Duiske were ultimately second best to the formidable northsiders.
There was a further boost for Dublin schools yesterday afternoon as Coláiste Eoin qualified for the Leinster Juvenile Hurling ‘A1’ league final courtesy of a thrilling 5-13 to 2-19 success over Mountrath CS.
Meanwhile, Ashbourne CC produced an accomplished display last Friday to claim the North Leinster Junior ‘B’ Football title.
The Meath outfit – who have a number of Dublin club players within their ranks – earned a 1-14 to 1-7 win at the expense of St Joseph’s, Rochfortbridge.
