FAHERTY STUNS STUDENTS
St Patrick’s Athletic 5 UCD 0
VINNY Faherty’s second half hat-trick kept St Patrick’s Athletic’s title dream alive as the Saints cruised past UCD at Richmond Park last night.
Pat’s were missing a number of first-team regulars but they always held the upper hand against the Students.
Liam Buckley’s men went in front on 16 minutes when Jake Kelly finished coolly into the bottom
left-hand corner from a tight angle on the right.
The hosts held that advantage to the break but upped the intensity after the restart. And 13 minutes into the second period, Faherty finished with much aplomb.
Battle
UCD were facing an uphill battle at this point and their task became even harder on 66 minutes when Faherty lashed home from close range after a delightful chip by Christopher Forrester had crashed off the upright.
Pat’s were rampant now, and it was no suprise that a fourth goal arrived with 18 minutes to go, with Anthony Flood getting the goal his performance deserved.
The Saints were not finished there, however, and Faherty ensured that he would claim the match ball by finishing clinically from a left-hand angle with five minutes remaining.
