Carlow trounce Trinity to get back on track
Fitzgibbon Cup
IT Carlow 0-24
Trinity College 1-8
Daire Walsh, Santry Avenue
IT Carlow got their Fitzgibbon Cup campaign back on track with an emphatic victory against Trinity College at Santry Avenue last night.
With inter-county stars Colin Dunford (Waterford) and Richie Leahy (Kilkenny) in fine form, the Barrowsiders raced clear during the early exchanges. Following another powerful rally during the closing stages of the half, they brought a seemingly unassailable cushion (0-15 to 0-3) into the interval.
Although Fionn O Riain Broin blazed a penalty past the post on the resumption, Trinity’s spirits were raised by Cian O’Sullivan’s outstanding 45th-minute goal.
However, after the impressive Chris Nolan increased his personal tally to eight points, DJ Carey’s men eased towards a comfortable win – which keeps in contention for a knockout spot.
