Castleknock are ‘B’ specials

CIAN Boyle delivered a star performance at Abbotstown yesterday to help Castleknock CC towards an emphatic Dublin Senior ‘B’ Hurling Championship triumph over Lucan CBS.
Alongside goals from Dublin minor Luke Swan, Conor Chawke and Ronan McCann, Boyle’s impressive haul of 0-8 ensured the Diswellstown outfit reigned supreme in the end. Strong scoring returns by Evin Dowling (1-7) and Matthew Dunne (0-5) kept Lucan in contention for long stretches, but Castleknock eased over the line with a late flourish.
Following an even start, Swan flicked home a long delivery on 15 minutes to create some daylight between the sides. Castleknock had defeated Lucan during the group stages of the competition and threatened to pull away when Chawke subsequently rattled the net.
However, thanks to the unerring accuracy of Dunne and Dowling, Lucan kept within reach. Despite finding themselves 2-9 to 0-10 in front at the break, it took a while for Castleknock to dismiss the challenge of their stubborn opponents.
Matthew Lynam contributed two points off the bench to increase their cushion to eight, before a Dowling goal for Lucan breathed fresh life into the contest. Yet, McCann’s green flag effort on 57 minutes dispelled any notion of a late fightback as Castleknock finished with 11 points to spare.
