ST FINTAN’S HS, Sutton will face Colaiste Eoin in the Dublin Juvenile ‘A’ Football Championship final after they defeated Maynooth Secondary School last Thursday.
Despite losing out to the Kildare outfit in the opening round of this year’s competition, Fintan’s had 11 points to spare (3-11 to 1-6) at the end of an accomplished display on away soil.
The northsiders hit the ground running in this penultimate round affair, with Ben Grassick and Finn Alexander combining effectively at midfield.
Jack Gilroy provided a constant threat at full-forward, and he registered a brace of goals inside the opening five minutes of the action. While Maynooth grew into the contest, they struggled to turn the tie in their favour.
Fintan’s netminder Killian Wallace kept their attack at bay until the break, helping his side to establish a six-point cushion.
The hosts remained in contention for large periods on the resumption, but Fintan’s made the most of the chances that fell their way.
Gilroy, Ciaran Giles and Finn Alexander delivered powerful performances for the Suttonians – who last reached the ‘A’ final in 2014.
They are set to encounter a stubborn resistance from Eoin in the forthcoming top-tier showpiece, though they will be significantly buoyed by this impressive last-four showing.
