COLAISTE Eoin progressed to the Dublin Schools Juvenile ‘A’ Football Championship final with an accomplished 15-point victory over Ardscoil Ris at UCD last Thursday.
The Gaelscoil most recently triumphed at this grade in December 2016, when they had the measure of St Benildus College in a high-scoring affair. They now await the winners of Maynooth SS and St Fintan’s HS, Sutton – who meet in the competition’s second semi-final, played tomorrow.
Playing with the aid of a powerful breeze, Eoin hit the ground running in the Belfield venue. Centre-back Diarmaid O Dulaing led impressively at centre-back, while Oisin Mac Anna also starred in their defence.
A number of the Eoin side featured for the school in their Tom Quinlan Cup success at the expense of St Aidan’s CBS back in May. Evan Binley contributed 4-1 in that comprehensive win and he also rattled the Ardscoil net in this penultimate round encounter.
An additional goal from Jamie O Conaire helped to underline Eoin’s title credentials, despite the best efforts of their Griffith Avenue counterparts – who keep themselves in contention for long stretches.
The Booterstown outfit’s victory was never in doubt, however, especially with first year student David Puirseil acted as a lynchpin in the pivotal midfield sector.
