Murray the Greenhills hero

A STOPPAGE-TIME goal by Calvin Murray helped Greenhills College to edge out Kylemore College in the Dublin Schools Junior Football ‘E’ Tier Two decider at Blanchardstown IT on Tuesday afternoon.
After advancing from a group that pitted them against Killinarden CS, St Aidan’s CS and Rosary College, Greenhills safely negotiated a path to this U16 grade final. Kylemore were paired in Roinn Four alongside Synge Street CBS and Gaelcholaiste An Phiarsaigh, and proved to be tricky opponents for the Walkinstown side.
Thanks in no small part to a coolly-struck Adam Plunkett goal, Greenhills held a slender 1-5 to 0-5 cushion at the end of a tightly-contested opening period. While their Ballyfermot counterparts were also awarded a spot-kick after the break, opposition netminder Chris Farrelly released the pressure on his defence with an outstanding stop. Nevertheless, courtesy of four excellent points on the trot, Kylemore found themselves in the ascendancy on the hour mark. However, determined to secure a first-ever Gaelic Football title for his school, wing-back Murray stepped up to the plate with a magnificent strike two minutes into time added on.
A close-range free presented Kylemore with a late chance to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, but Greenhills ultimately sealed a hard-earned 2-5 to 0-9 triumph by clearing the ball to safety.
