GAELIC GAMES: LEINSTER JUV HL FINAL
North defeated by Kieran’s

THERE was disappointment at Abbotstown last Thursday for Dublin North, who suffered a 6-12 to 0-11 reversal at the hands of St Kieran’s College in the Leinster Schools Juvenile ‘A’ Hurling League decider.
Following convincing victories over Kilkenny CBS, St Peter’s, Wexford, Dublin South (winners of the two previous finals) and Good Counsel of New Ross, North safely advanced to this showpiece encounter.
While the final scoreline suggests that Kieran’s were in command all the way through, North were well within reach of silverware during the opening period.
Indeed, at the half-time in the National Games Development Centre, Kieran’s had to be content with a 1-6 to 0-7 buffer. With Gordon Rodgers and Senan McCann leading the way in attack, North were eager to push on after the break.
Naoise O’Carroll and Reuben Cahill also impressed for Dublin North, but a powerful scoring blitz by Kieran’s on the resumption effectively placed the outcome beyond their reach.
They registered 3-1 without reply in a four-minute spell, at which point their opponents opted to unload their bench.
Although St Kieran’s remained in control for the remainder of the contest, Dublin North can take a lot of positives from the way they performed throughout the course of the campaign.
