PEEL FIRES RIS TO VICTORY

Griffith Avenue school reclaim ‘A’ title

ARDSCOIL Ris claimed their first Dublin Schools Juvenile ‘A’ Hurling Championship title since 2014 with an emphatic victory against St Colmcille’s CS at Abbotstown on Tuesday afternoon.

Though Colmcille’s were seeking back-to-back successes in this competition, full-forward Daniel Peel inspired their Griffith Avenue counterparts to a stunning win.

Following early points by Peel and Adam McAweeney, a speculative effort from centre-forward Andrew Keegan found the back of the Colmcille’s net.

PROPELLED

A second goal arrived through McAweeney, who also raised a green flag at the end of the first-quarter.

Skipper James O’Brien finally opened the Colmcille’s account with a pointed free, before additional three-pointers by Peel, Oisin Mulcahy and Keegan propelled Ardscoil towards an unassailable interval lead of 6-13 to 0-3.

Colmcille’s were struggling to deal with the fast movement of the Ardscoil attack, but managed to reduce the gap after the break via O’Brien.

Ardscoil’s relentless pursuit of scores produced a seventh goal from substitute Stephen Ryan, though, and Peel added his second after superbly gathering a long delivery.

With both teams making alterations to their respective line-ups, the latter stages of the game were quite evenly-contested. O’Brien brought his tally to 0-5 with a brace of scores, whereas Ciaran Lambert and Aaron Cosgrave converted frees at the opposite end.

Inevitably, Ardscoil had the final say in the National Games Development Centre – Joe Kavanagh firing past Jack Hutchison to wrap up a comprehensive triumph.
