Leinster Schools Junior Cup Semi-Final: Blackrock College V Castleknock College – The Irish Independent – March 16 2018

O’Reilly and Walsh put ‘rock on road to final

Leinster Schools Junior Cup: Blackrock College 15 Castleknock College 5

Blackrock reached the final of the Leinster Schools Junior Cup with a commanding victory at Donnybrook.

Tries in each half by Jude O’Reilly and David Walsh put Blackrock in the driving seat, before Castleknock claimed a consolation score through replacement Oisín Tierney during the closing stages. ‘Rock will now face south Dublin rivals St Mary’s College in an intriguing final.

They dominated possession in the early stages and broke the deadlock with nine minutes on the clock. After a neat offload from centre Tom Henderson, winger O’Reilly sprinted over. A bonus strike by Michael Moloney increased the ‘Rock advantage. Though they secured a number of attacking scrums, Castleknock couldn’t break down a resolute defence. Courtesy of a routine Moloney penalty on the half-hour, ‘Rock led 10-0 at half-time.

Castleknock lost influential second-row Senan Forker to the sin-bin at the end of the third-quarter. From the resulting lineout maul, Walsh was on hand to register ‘Rock’s second try. Castleknock persisted with their challenge and Tierney touched down via a neat Oran Farrell pass four minutes from the end.
