GAELIC FOOTBALL: ROUND-UP

Ardscoil into ‘A’ final at expense of Benildus

ARDSCOIL Ris will contest the Dublin Schools Senior Football ‘A’ Championship decider, after they recorded a commanding 2-16 to 1-7 win over St Benildus College at Alfie Byrne Park on Tuesday afternoon.

Although Benildus were in a top-tier county decider as recently as 2016 (the same year they were crowned Leinster champions), Ardscoil dominated the proceedings on the Clontarf Road from very early on. In addition to fine scores by Shane O’Leary, wing-back Robert O’Sullivan and Ryan Dunne, Sean Lambe raised a green flag for the Griffith Avenue outfit.

Benildus remained in contention during the third-quarter, before Dunne’s second half goal helped Ardscoil – who are co-managed by Waterford hurler Philip Mahony – to open the floodgates. Dublin minor footballer Liam McGovern, Tom Keogh and the impressive O’Leary were all on target, as the northside school booked a final spot against St Fintan’s HS, Sutton.

Meanwhile, following a compelling home battle with Skerries CC on Monday afternoon, Lucan CBS advanced to the final of the Dublin Schools Senior Football ‘B’ Championship with a single point to spare over their Townparks counterparts (3-17 to 2-19).
