FOLLOWING a powerful second half display by Colaiste Choilm, Tullamore at Dunmore last Thursday, Colaiste Eoin came up short in the Leinster Schools Senior Hurling ‘B’ Championship showpiece.
Though Eoin led for large spells of the contest in the Kilkenny venue, vital scores by Brian Duignan and Mark Dillon helped the Offaly school to prevail with four points to spare (2-12 to 2-8).
Just under two weeks on from their impressive Dublin Senior ‘A’ final success, Eoin were aiming to add further silverware in an already impressive season.
A Billy Fogarty goal edged Choilm into an early lead, before quick-fire Donncha Ó Muireadaigh and Jack Ó Tuama three-pointers offered the Gaelscoil some breathing space.
Just one point separated the teams at the break (2-5 to 1-7), but three unanswered scores on the resumption – including one by centre-back Tom Ó hEachtigheirn – placed Eoin in pole position for a provincial triumph.
However, Choilm gained momentum with a series of placed-ball efforts from the reliable Duignan and Dillon’s 53rd-minute goal ultimately placed the game beyond the reach of Aodan De Paor’s charges.
