St Mary’s College progressed to the Leinster Schools Junior Cup quarter-finals with a hard-earned win over Newbridge College at Donnybrook yesterday.
The Rathmines side opened up a 10-point gap with five points apiece from Adam Sloan and place-kicker Max Svejdar. Newbridge eventually responded through No 8 Donough Lawlor, before John Kennedy crossed over to give Mary’s a 15-5 interval lead.
Mary’s grabbed another try courtesy of hooker Matthew Black to put them in control and, while the impressive Lawlor touched down for a second time for Newbridge, Mary’s advanced.
