FOLLOWING their 10-point success over Ardscoil Ris at Abbotstown on Monday afternoon, Colaiste Eoin were crowned the inaugural winners of the Dublin First Year Hurling Cup.

Eoin had booked their place in this decider with a comprehensive semi-final victory against St Fintan’s HS a fortnight ago, and Ardscoil had 23 points to spare (4-14 to 0-3) in their penultimate round meeting with St Benildus College last Monday week.

Indeed, in spite of some strong performances for Eoin from Dara O Cinneide and Daithi Goss, Ardscoil headed into the break with a 2-3 to 1-2 cushion.

This threw down the gauntlet to their Booterstown counterparts, but Jamie O Conchuir put Eoin back on track with a brace of goals after the restart.

A subsequent Ruan O Conchubhair strike helped to raise a green flag, and thanks to dominant displays by the midfield partnership of Diarmaid O Dulaing and Aodhan Inglis, they were able to drive at Ardscoil for large spells of the second-half.

Their opponents still possessed a significant attacking threat, and while Eoin netminder Oscar O Croinin came to his side’s rescue with a superb point-blank save, Ardscoil eventually brought their goal tally up to four.

Yet, with the likes of Inglis, O Conchuir and Goss continuing to lead the way, Colaiste Eoin came out on top.
