GAELIC GAMES: DUBLIN SHC ‘A’

Champs Eoin make a statement of intent

COLAISTE Eoin enjoyed a winning start to the defence of their Dublin Senior ‘A’ Hurling Championship last week when they comprehensively defeated St Benildus College.

The Gaelscoil are joined in Roinn One of the competition by Benildus and Colaiste Eanna, and in their 2-20 to 0-7 victory over the former, they issued a serious statement of intent for this year.

Fionn Ó Ceallaigh’s early 1-1 salvo placed Aodan de Paor’s outfit in the driving seat, but it wasn’t all one-way traffic, as Benildus were just two points in arrears (1-4 to 0-5) at the midway point in the contest.

Yet, well-worked scores from Seán Ó Cinnseallaigh, Liam Ó Rodaigh and Tomás Ó Néill helped Eoin to create significant daylight between themselves and Benildus, before a late goal by Dublin minor star Diarmaid Ó Floinn  allowed them to ease over the line.

Meanwhile, last year’s finalists Ardscoil Ris also opened Roinn Two on a positive note last Friday week, when they defeated St Aidan’s CBS on a scoreline of 1-17 to 2-9.

INAUGURAL

Sean Currie (recently named in the inaugural Minor All-Star Hurling team) was in outstanding form for the Griffith Avenue school, and Aidan’s also suffered a 2-13 to 4-13 reversal last Friday at the hands of St Fintan’s HS – who progressed to the top-tier as a result of their magnificent Senior ‘B’ success in November 2016.
