FOR the fourth time in just five years, Dublin South were crowned Leinster Juvenile Hurling ‘A’ League champions with a comprehensive 3-19 to 0-7 win over Good Counsel, New Ross in Carlow last Thursday.
The Metropolitans bagged the 2016 title in the same venue at the expense of St Kieran’s College, and thanks to the scoring prowess of skipper Jack Kielty, Darragh Kenny and Brian Keogh, they dominated the opening period at Eire Og GAA.
Kielty registered an early goal for South, and after a long-free by Evin Dowling dropped all the way into the net, they brought an insurmountable 2-10 to 0-1 cushion into the second period. Their Slaneyside rivals did play with more confidence upon the resumption, but with centre-back Tom McVeigh in outstanding form, the South defence remained largely unbreached.
Kielty, Kenny and Keogh continued to enhance their side’s scoring tally at the opposition’s end, and with Kilmacud Crokes’ Davy Crowe also leading by example, they comfortably secured their second consecutive ‘A’ final triumph.
