FOLLOWING their narrow triumph over Presentation Wexford in Gorey last Saturday, Castleknock CC will contest the All-Ireland Schools Senior ‘C’ Camogie Championship decider.
It was a tight affair throughout at the Slaneyside venue, but with Aisling Andrews and Ellen Bolger to the fore, Margaret Shortall’s side claimed a 2-8 to 1-8 win. Castleknock had progressed to this stage as a result of their comprehensive Dublin Senior ‘B’ success against St Mac Dara’s CC last month, when Aoife Whelan and Eimear Griffin produced star performances for the victors.
A first-half goal from Bolger was a major tonic for Castleknock in this penultimate round clash, but they found themselves trailing 0-7 to 1-2 at the midway stage. Yet, with Andrews in fine form, it turned the tie around after the restart.
She finished with an impressive tally of 0-5, while the elusive Bolger added a second goal. Points by Ciara Golden and Whelan were also crucial in determining the outcome, and Castleknock can now look forward to their upcoming final against St Patrick’s, Keady of Armagh with a great deal of confidence.
