CAMOGIE: DUBLIN SCHOOLS JUNIOR ROUND-UP

Leahy shines in Sackville’s superb success

IT was a day to remember for St Wolstan’s, Colaiste Cois Life and Mount Sackville at Clanna Gael Fontenoy last Friday, as they all secured silverware in their respective Dublin Post-Primary Schools Junior Camogie finals.

Scoil Chaitriona provided the opposition to Wolstan’s (from the Clane Road in Celbridge) in the ‘B’ Championship showpiece, and with Ashla Copeland, and Holly Tynan leading by example, they held a four-point advantage at the midway point in the contest.

Scoil Chatriona kept their north Kildare opponents on their toes with some fine scores, but with Copeland, Aibha Tyndall, Niamh McInerney and Grace Gallagher all finding the net, St Wolstan’s recorded a 4-4 to 2-6 victory.

Cois Life’s ‘C’ Championship encounter with Loreto Balbriggan proved to be a low-scoring affair, where both defences were on top for much of the play. Meghan Benson, Grainne Skelton and Aoife Brady produced strong displays for Loreto, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Lucan school claiming the spoils on a scoreline of 0-3 to 0-0.

Meanwhile, Mount Sackville of Chapelizod sealed the ‘B’ Shield crown in style against Scoil Mhuire, Clane. Skipper Alice Leahy was an influential figure for Sackville in the pivotal position of centre-back, while the midfield pairing of Rachel Moran and Amy Quinn were dominant throughout.

The clinical scoring returns by the full-forward line of Rachel Carey, Aoibhinn Burke and Eimear Timoney, Sackville registered a comprehensive 8-11 to 0-0 success.
