CASTLEKNOCK CC and Holy Faith Clontarf claimed silverware on Camogie Finals Day at Clanna Gael Fontenoy last Friday, when they defeated St Mac Dara’s CC and Loreto Crumlin in their respective Senior ‘B’ and Senior ‘C’ Championship deciders.

Castleknock had defeated St Mary’s, Naas in the penultimate round, and thanks to an fantastic individual goal by Aoife Whelan, they opened up an early gap over Mac Dara’s. The Templeogue school were doing their utmost to remain in touch during the first-half, but courtesy of outstanding displays from Caitlin Coffey, Molly O’Neill, Aisling Andrews and centre-back Niamh Mulroney, Castleknock continued to dominate.

Star attacker Eimear Griffin also registered a brace of goals, and although Mac Dara’s had some fine moments of their own, Castleknock recorded an emphatic 9-9 to 2-3 success.

Holy Faith Clontarf included Dublin minor dual star Niamh Hetherton in their starting line-up for a showdown with Loreto Crumlin, and she proved her worth by grabbing two crucial goals for the Belgrove Road side.

INVALUABLE

A hat-trick of goals by Anna Murphy were also invaluable for Clontarf, but their opponents from Crumlin showed admirable resilience to keep in touch until the final moments of the play.

Yet, with Hetherton and Murphy firing on all cylinders, Holy Faith triumphed on a scoreline of 6-5 to 5-6.
