NUIG finished their Walsh Cup campaign on a high as they secured an emphatic victory in a dead rubber at Abbotstown.

With Ger Hennelly, Aidan Helebert and Kevin McHugo in fine form, NUIG dominated the first half.

Three points apiece from Kennelly and Helebert took the visitors seven points clear, and despite the best efforts of Cian O’Donoghue for DIT, a superb 30th-minute goal from the excellent McHugo propelled NUIG to a 1-18 to 0-10 interval advantage.

NUIG initially remained on top when the action resumed, but unanswered points by Bill Maher, O’Donoghue (two), Aaron Nugent and Eoin O’Hehir, cut the gap to seven points with 13 minutes remaining.

Yet NUIG pulled away with scores from Gearoid Loughnane, Pearse McCrann and Helebert (two).
