LEINSTER SF ‘A’ ROUND 2
Holders Benildus and Eoin fall short in Leinster

THERE was disappointment for St Benildus College and Colaiste Eoin in the past week, as they suffered respective second round defeats in the Top Oil Leinster Schools’ Senior Football ‘A’ Championship.
Defending champions Benildus received a bye into this stage of the competition, and despite having several players from last year’s successful team, Colaiste Mhuire, Mullingar emerged victorious on a scoreline of 2-13 to 0-7 in Mullingar’s Cusack Park yesterday.
Courtesy of scores by Sean Ó Giolláin, Conchúr Cinnsealach and Tomás Mac Aodha, Eoin were well in contention for much of the opening half of their last-16 encounter with St Peter’s College, Wexford last Friday.
However, a well-worked goal from their Slaneyside counterparts left them with a 0-3 to 1-4 interval deficit.
A 0-4 haul by Mac Aodha after the restart kept Peter’s on their toes, and an excellent score by Diarmuid Ó Floinn then cut the gap to a single point.
Yet, a strong finish by Peter’s ultimately ensured that Colaiste Eoin came up just short in the end.
There will be one Dublin team in the quarter-final of the provincial championships, however, with St Aidan’s CBS set to do battle with Moate Community School for a place in the last-four – following their impressive victories to date against Patricians of Newbridge and St Mel’s College, Longford.
