GAELIC GAMES: DUBLIN SF ‘D1’
John’s advance with Fingal victory
Daire Walsh
FOLLOWING their emphatic success over Fingal Community College last Friday morning, St John’s College will contest the Dublin Schools’ Senior Football ‘D1’ Section 2 final.
The Ballyfermot school had progressed to the penultimate round of this competition in ruthless style, as they overcame Kylemore College in their quarter-final match with all of 19 points to spare (6-8 to 1-4).
With Warren Mitchell and Seamus Keary forming a strong midfield partnership, John’s dominated the action on their home patch from the word go. Defender Dan Mooney was also a stand-out performer, and thanks to an impressive hat-trick of goals by Calvin Rodgers, they created serious daylight between themselves and Fingal in the opening period.
Their Seatown Road opponents did their best to keep a rampant John’s College at bay, but they were struggling to curb the influence of the hosts’ potent forward line.
With a number of players introduced from the John’s bench after the restart, Fingal did have some encouraging moments in attack, but they were ultimately on the receiving end of an 8-8 to 3-4 defeat.
