LUSK Community College booked their place in the Dublin Schools’ Junior Hurling ‘D1’ semi-final last Friday when they defeated Synge Street CBS by a margin of 15 points (4-7 to 1-1).
Playing in the local Round Towers GAA club, Lusk were hoping to build on their encouraging performances in Roinn 1 of the competition against Ardgillan CC, St Joseph’s CBS and St Joseph’s, Rush, but they were facing a Synge Street team that had progressed from a group that included Adamstown CC, Colaiste Mhuire and Trinity Comprehensive Secondary School.
However, with Dublin U15 hurler Luke Codd in excellent scoring form, Lusk dominated the first-half proceedings. The Ros Lusca star amassed an exceptional haul of 0-7 in the opening period, and thanks to goals by centre-back David Moore (two) and corner-forward Thi Fanning – as well strong work by the midfielder pairing of Tiernan Holland and Conor Bohan – they held a seemingly insurmountable 3-7 to 0-0 interval cushion.
With a tough semi-final encounter on the horizon, Lusk utilised their reserves options when the action resumed – with the likes of Ruadhan McCloskey, Nathan O’Brien and Jordan Byrne all seeing action at some point.
A determined Synge Street did cut into their deficit during a tightly-contested second half, but courtesy of a second goal by Fanning, Lusk CC progressed in considerable style.
