CIARAN Murphy produced a star performance at Russell Park yesterday afternoon, as Skerries Community College secured the Dublin Schools’ Junior Football ‘C’ Championship title with a 1-12 to 0-7 triumph over St Colmcille’s Community School.

This victory arrived hot on the heels of their semi-final success against Scoil Chaitriona, and they will now face Ardscoil Rathangan in a provincial decider next Wednesday.

Colmcille’s had defeated St Kevin’s CBS in their penultimate round clash back in February, and the Ballyboden boys were aiming to join their hurling counterparts in reaching the Leinster Junior ‘C’ competition.

Colmcille’s overcame PDLS Bagenalstown of Carlow last Wednesday to book their place in an upcoming hurling showpiece, but with Fionnan O’Sullivan, Liam Woodcock, Thomas McBrien and Adam Fearon all producing excellent displays, the impressive Skerries were in the ascendancy throughout the course of the opening period.

Yet, Colmcille’s placed the northside outfit under significant pressure after the restart, and the Skerries rearguard were asked a number of questions by their determined opponents.

Skerries maintained their composure, though, and after Murphy (who finished with a personal tally of 1-6) found the back of the Colmcille’s net from a late attack, Thomas Connolly’s charges finished with eight points to spare and claimed the silverware on offer at the St Brigid’s GAA Astro pitch.
