Bank Of Ireland Leinster Rugby Camps Launch: Hayden Triggs – The Irish Daily Mail – April 22 2016

Triggs digs his gig with Leinster and wants more

As he approaches the end of his current contract with Leinster, New Zealand-born lock Hayden Triggs revealed that his future with the Blues is still very much up in the air.

The 34-year-old Kiwi joined Leo Cullen’s squad last October, and despite enduring a difficult time initially due to injury, he wants to remain in Dublin next season.

“Nothing is confirmed at the moment. I’m just fighting every week,” revealed Triggs at this week’s Leinster Rugby Camps launch.

“Yes [I’d like to stay], we’re settled here. My family is settled here. I really enjoy the club. It’s a great set-up, the coaches are good, the senior players are good.”

Triggs is one of several New Zealanders currently plying his trade in Ireland and it is the performances of compatriot and Connacht centre Bundee Aki that have really caught the eye recently.

“I’ve never played in a team with him, I’ve played against him, heard a lot about him.

“If I can speak my mind I’d say that a player like him – I don’t know him, but I know a lot of kids like him – if they’re in their comfort zone, they’re happy. They do what they do and everyone pats them on the back.

“You take them halfway across the world, they realise they have to fight for a jersey or a place, they find hunger.

“You take them out of their comfort zone man, and they thrive. He’s found his niche, Pat Lam has got him hissing, so he’s doing well. He’s a stand-out player for me,” Triggs added.
