ST Colmcille’s CS will compete in the Leinster Schools’ Junior Hurling ‘C’ decider, following their 3-10 to 1-4 semi-final triumph over PDLS Bagenalstown at Hawfield yesterday.
Mark McNamee and Daniel Nugent were in fine form for the Scholarstown Road outfit, and despite playing in adverse weather conditions at the Kildare venue, Colmcille’s will now compete for provincial honours.
The Southsiders claimed the Dublin ‘B’ title at the expense of St Declan’s CBS last November, and although they had a long wait before competing in Leinster, they always held an edge over their Carlow counterparts.
McNamee was in fine form during the opening half for the school from Knocklyon (who are comprised entirely of players from Ballyboden St Enda’s), and thanks to a brace of goals from the dependable attacker, Colmcille’s were four points in front at the mid-way stage.
Bagenalstown posed a threat at certain junctures in the contest, but courtesy of strong work from the Colmcille’s rearguard, they were largely kept at bay after the restart.
In addition to McNamee’s 2-2 haul, Nugent contributed a personal tally of 1-4 – his goal arrived in the second period – as St Colmcille’s advanced to the next stage in clinical fashion.
