Blackrock crush Belvedere to book final ticket
RUGBY: Defending champions Blackrock College will face St Michael’s College in the final of the Leinster Schools’ Junior Cup, following a 38-6 victory over Belvedere College at Donnybrook yesterday.
The Williamstown school are chasing their fourth consecutive title, and with just seven minutes gone on the clock, they broke the deadlock with a converted try from prop Luke Mion. Swapped place-kicks between Belvo centre Cailean Mulvaney and David Fitzgibbon meant that ‘Rock held a 10-3 interval lead, but within 60 seconds of the restart, ‘Rock extended their cushion with a magnificent Ross Barron touchdown. Another Mulvaney penalty offered some solace to Belvo, but five-pointers from Jack Loscher, John Corless and Ed Brennan saw Blackrock finish with 32 points to spare.
