Determined Lucan school defeat Our Lady’s

A SECOND-HALF goal from Laura O’Mahony was the difference at Clanna Gael Fontenoy last Friday afternoon when St Joseph’s College, Lucan secured their second Dublin Schools Senior Camogie ‘A’ Championship title at the expense of Our Lady’s, Terenure.
Joseph’s made a dream start to the proceedings, as corner-forward Emily McIntyre finished off a goalmouth scramble, but their Terenure counterparts restored parity at the end of the first-quarter with a firm three-pointer from close-range by Sarah Joyce.
A coolly-converted ’45’ for Our Lady’s from centre-back Isabelle Costelloe cancelled out an earlier point by Aoife McKearney (free), before Orla Sadlier claimed a second goal for Joseph’s.
LEVELLED
Our Lady’s dramatically levelled matters (2-2 apiece) before the interval with a well-taken Holly Finnegan major, but despite moving into the ascendancy for the very first time after the restart with a close-range Costelloe free, three Joseph’s points in quick succession by McKearney (two) and Samantha Fitzgerald were supplemented by 46th-minute goal O’Mahony goal from a speculative shot.
Our Lady’s reduced their deficit to two points thanks to hard-earned scores by Costelloe (two) and Finnegan, but with the Joseph’s half-back duo of Meabh Dowler and Jessica Condron in excellent form (the latter executed a superb hook on the goalbound Ciara O’Neill), the Lucan school edged a tense outing.
