By Daire Walsh

IT Carlow suffered a 19-point defeat at the hands of the All-Ireland champions in the O’Byrne Cup. Following scores by Andrews, Conor McGuire, Deegan (two), Shane Carthy, Cormac Costello (free) and Tomas Brady, Carlow were facing into a seven-point deficit with just 11 minutes gone in the action. They did receive a lifeline in the 15th-minute when full-forward Mark Sherry scored a goal.

However, Dublin were always in control and well-worked goals from Costello and Andrews ensured that the hosts were 17 points to the good (2-16 to 1-2) at half-time. A Chris Healy goal was the highpoint of IT Carlow’s second-half efforts.
