Dublin North kill off challenge of Kilkenny CBS

AN outstanding second-half performance paved the way for Dublin North’s success in Fenagh, Co Carlow yesterday afternoon, as the Metropolitan outfit held off the challenge of Kilkenny CBS to progress to the final of the Leinster SH’A’ League.

North were able to call on the services of a number of players from Ardscoil Ris – who secured the Dublin Schools’ SH ‘A’ Championship crown five days earlier – and the always influential Colin Currie displayed unerring accuracy throughout the contest.

He amassed an excellent personal haul of 0-8, and although the Noresiders recorded a brace of goals in the first half, a well-taken goal by midfielder Johnny McGuirk ensured that North held a slender advantage at the break.

McGuirk and his midfield partner – Daire Gray – contributed a combined tally of 1-6, and lively Ardscoil attacker John Walsh helped himself to three points from play. Conor Burke also added his name to the scoresheet, and despite conceding a third goal to Kilkenny in the latter stages, Dublin North’s 1-22 to 3-11 victory sets up a final date with St Kieran’s College.
