DUBLIN SENIOR HC ‘C’ Q-FINALS
Clonkeen and Lucan progress
RONAN Hayes and Liam Murphy produced strong performances last Friday morning, when a comprehensive triumph over Colaiste Cois Life helped Clonkeen College to progress to the semi-final of the Dublin Schools’ Senior ‘C’ Hurling Championship.
Clonkeen had emerged from a three-team group that included St Mac Dara’s CC and Drimnagh Castle CBS, while Cois Life secured a top-two finish (along with Lucan CBS) in Roinn 4. It was Clonkeen who dominated the proceedings on their home turf, though, and courtesy of two goals from Hayes, they brought a 2-8 to 0-5 lead into the second period.
The influential centre-forward finished with a personal tally of 2-7, but Murphy – a third year student – also contributed 1-5 to the Blackrock school’s cause.
Scores from Adam Coulter (goal), Emmet Murphy and Rory McMahon also ensured that Clonkeen finished with 20 points to spare (4-20 to 1-9), and they will now face Portmarnock CS in the penultimate round.
They will be joined in the final-four by Lucan CBS, who were put to the pin of their collar by a goal-hungry St Mac Dara’s outfit on Thursday. Their Templeogue counterparts possessed a strong attacking throughout, but Lucan ultimately recorded a hard-earned 2-19 to 5-6 success.
