Dublin Schools Junior Hurling Championship Round-Up: The Evening Herald – November 5 2015

DUBLIN JUNIOR HC

Maynooth and Joseph’s win

MAYNOOTH Post-Primary will play Malahide CS in the semi-final of the Dublin Schools Junior Hurling ‘C’ Championship, after the north Kildare side recorded a six-point victory (4-6 to 2-6) at the end of a tough encounter with Drimnagh Castle CBS on Monday.

Playing on their home patch, Drimnagh enjoyed a bright opening to the proceedings, with inside forwards Jacob Nolan and Daniel Doyle making a major impression in attack.

However, Maynooth held firm in defence during the first half, and thanks to strong work from Carl McCabe and Shane White, they developed a promising 2-3 to 0-3 half-time lead.

Maynooth added a third goal after the restart, but with substitute Scott Clifford and Sean McGee securing green flags either side of this effort, Drimnagh remained in contention. Indeed, they had a number of agonising misses in the second period, but courtesy of an outstanding haul of 2-2 from McCabe (in addition to White and Odhran Cussen goals), Maynooth ultimately advanced.

Meanwhile, in the Dublin Schools’ Junior ‘D1’ Hurling quarter-final on Tuesday, defending champions St Joseph’s, Rush emerged with a facile 7-14 to 2-1 triumph over Synge Street CBS.
